What?!?! Training 900 Pastors and Evangelists in India? That’s right! I have just returned from an amazing trip to India. I joined Pastor Joel Mattsson-Boze from Newark, Ca. who has been annually training village pastors in India for HoF for the last seven years.
Thirty seven years ago I lived and ministered in India for four months. On this recent trip I discovered that the more things change, the more they stay the same! All the vehicles still honk at approaching vehicles. The women still wear Saris. The noise and smells are still the same. But, God has done a good work in the people, so much has changed. They have a deeper understanding of the things of God and a great desire for more.
HoF has been working with Vijay Komanipalli in Nellore and Emmanuel Karumuri in Chennai. I have history with Vijay that goes back 37 years. I was sent to India to check on the work Vijay’s father was involved with after a wall had fallen on him and killed him. Vijay remembers me from that time and even has a picture with both of us in it. He was six at that time. Now Pastor Vijay is reaching his state of Andra Pradesh through evangelism, church planting and leadership training.
By the numbers here is what happened;
- 900 pastors and evangelists were taught during three, 4-day seminars and one night meeting
- 600 youth were taught during three one-day seminars
- 850 villagers were reached in evening evangelistic meetings
- 226 were saved
- Several were water baptized
- Several were healed
- 5 meetings were held in churches
- I assisted in giving away food in 3 slum areas
We asked for feedback and here are just a few stories we heard. One pastor said his father had been interpreting for Westerners for over 40 years and he, personally, had never understood anything they had said. But during these meetings he not only understood our teachings but they had changed his life and ministry. After I taught on Wolves, one pastor said that he now realizes that his wife and daughter had been acting like wolves toward their church and he intended to confront them. Another pastor said that he, himself, had been acting like a wolf and repented in front of his peers. Vijay said that he really enjoyed the practical aspects of my teachings and could not wait for my book on Leadership Development to arrive (it was translated into Telugu and should arrive any day now).
We are still praying for the money needed to complete the training facility in Chinthopu. It should cost around $20,000 US. We plan on using the facility full time for training pastors and evangelists and Herald of Faith Bible University will be a strong instrument in helping accomplish this vision. Pray about what you can do to help. Then go to our website and you can easily click the Donate button and help make a difference. Together we can train workers to reach India.
